Auditions will be held on Friday, January 11th at Summit View Church, 7701 NE 182nd Ave, Vancouver, WA. Sign in between 5:00 - 7:00pm.

Callbacks are also at Summit View church, from 9am - 2pm, on Saturday, January 12th. 

Audition Information

• JOURNEY ’s perspective on auditioning is one of building self-esteem; the audition environment is very encouraging!
• Each person will have 1 minute to audition.  Background tracks should be edited to 1 minute.  Auditions that go beyond the 1 minute may be cut off.
• Bring a background track (no vocals, no a cappella) for your audition, or your own accompanist
• Track can be a downloaded MP3 file or CD. NO STREAMING, no thumb drives, etc.
• Sign in for auditions is between 5pm and 7pm.   Once you’ve signed in, it may take some time to get to your group, so give yourself an hour or two.  
• Bring Audition Form, Parent Committee Form, Medical Release and Costume Form (from the Forms page on the Callboard). We will have copies of these forms on site, but it is easier to fill them out ahead of time. All forms must be completed before student can sign up for an audition time.
• Be sure to note all Parent and Student conflicts on the Audition form and Parent Committee Form
• Auditions are open; people are allowed and encouraged to stay and watch.
• Callbacks (on Saturday) are closed; parents drop off their kids if they are called back.

• For callbacks, be sure to wear clothes you can dance in & bring a lunch and water if you are called back for the full day.

We encourage everyone to attend at least a portion of auditions, even if your child does not plan to audition.  It is great to have the students support and encourage each other and to see what auditions are like. We also encourage new students to audition for the experience of it. The audition process is great for building confidence and self-esteem. JOURNEY directors and leaders are very encouraging to students.  New students can bring their audition form and write the “Practice Audition” across the front.  This opportunity is open only to those who have not auditioned for a Journey show before.

After auditions, the Artistic Team meets to decide who they would like to see at Callbacks the next day.  If an Artistic Team member or Show Coordinator has a child auditioning for the show, that person leaves the room while their child is being discussed in deliberations for callbacks and casting.

Students who are called back do not need to prepare anything special; but they should be familiar with the songs and scenes from the show, if possible.

Parent Production Committees are a unique and valuable attribute of our program. Each family with a cast member must also have an adult who serves on a Committee. All Committee Members are required to attend the First and Second Parent Meetings and the Move In meeting, if this is your first time at a particular venue. Parent Meeting dates are listed on the Callboard.

Crew parent involvement is optional.  NEW Crew Parents are required to attend 2nd Parent Meeting.

Fees

• There is a $100 per cast member Production Fee
  Parents must provide makeup, specific shoes, socks and a show box for their cast member
  There are other optional items parents may purchase like show shirts, meals and souvenirs.

Journey's "Cut Policy"

"Casting cuts" can be the very hardest part of auditions.  And although we hold as a core value the philosophy of providing opportunities for kids to learn and grow through the theater arts performance experience, there ARE considerations that would perhaps cause a student to be "cut" from a production.  Those reasons are clearly laid out in the Journey Cut Policy at the link below.
